Alexander Nikolov Is a photographer based in Sofia, Bulgaria who specializes in minimalist and surrealist photography.
How did you get into photography?
My first camera was a digital camera. It was Kodak and there weren't any settings on it. I began to read photo books. Then I wanted to try different settings and situations. I remember that I wanted to catch the moment, let's say so. The beautiful sunset for example, or a nice portraits of the friends. So began my journey in the world of photography.
You have a very keen eye for the beauty that is found in the simplest of things. Do you think that looking through the viewfinder allows you to view the world differently?
That's the beauty of photography - it can show us the beauty of the simple things, photographed in different ways by each of us - the people.
What are your goals in terms of your photography?
Well.... Maybe to sell my photos. I don't know. It's difficult. Another goal? Maybe a photo book. It is great idea to collect my best shots in one book.
Maybe a solo exhibition too, but that's difficult, because I have to show something special and really good to be successful, not just nice sunset over the sea :).
What kind of gear do you use?
Canon 400d, Seagull 4A; Pentax ME Super and of course the mobile phone - IPhone 6.
Do you think that an image needs to tell the viewer a story to be strong?
Of course, an image without a story or a inspiration behind it would not be so strong. That's the way I'm interested in Conceptual photography too. Sometimes you have to find the hidden story of the photo to understand it. And that's the beauty of the Conceptual photography.
What is your favorite image that you have taken? Why?
Hmmm... a difficult question. I don't have a favorite image..... But the first image that came to mind is a photo that I took with my old phone on a Greek island called Ithaka. I was at Kioni's pier. It is a photo of a tables and chairs, and behind them, the sea. It was a lovely summer day. It is a great memory....
