Björk - 'The Gate'

What was your experience like working on this project?

Working with Bjork and Andrew Thomas Huang on “The Gate” video was a dream opportunity. It was my job to execute a carefully choreographed plan which Andrew had pre-visualized. I love moving my camera in all sorts of interesting ways, so I was thrilled to see how fluid and disorienting Andrew wanted it to appear. Since he also planned to have Bjork’s glowing environment all created digitally, I needed to design a way to light Bjork from virtual sources. This involved programming panels of LEDs with reference to the pre-vis and in sync with the music. Bjork, her costume, Andrew, and the talented CGI artists at Wolf & Crow made an incredible work of art and I’m so happy to have helped photograph what was needed in-camera.

This video won Pitchfork’s Best Music Video of 2017.
