JBL (Shot by Sean Bagley)

One of the many things I admire most about director Julian Acosta is his desire to always push his projects further. We've done a lot of spots together, and he's done many things for JBL, but that didn't stop him from doing everything he could to make this piece really special. The most important element of this spot to both of us was the story. Therefore, my challenge was to help push the narrative along with the lighting and composition. Because the story spans a lengthy amount of time it was important to make each scene feel different. This included a lot of different lighting concepts and color combinations I wouldn't normally do in something that is supposed to feel more linear. It was a great challenge, and a fantastic excuse to experiment.  This spot was shot with an Alexa Mini and Lomo (Round Front) Anamorphics. I also owe a great deal of gratitude to Sophie Borup at Company 3 for the phenomenal color job she did.

About the Artist

Sean Bagley is a Director of Photography based in Los Angeles. He graduated from the American Film Institute and now shoots narrative and commercial projects all over the world. Sean’s narrative work includes the upcoming feature film, HEAD COUNT, and his recent commercial portfolio includes work for Nike, Google, Verizon, Adidas, McDonald’s, ESPN, Spotify, Samsung and Delta. He recently bought a road bike and could use some tips. Sean is represented by WPA.
